Kitchen Committee Meeting Sunday, August 1 after Worship

KITCHEN REMODEL UPDATE

As of July 27th we have raised $14,175.00 toward the kitchen remodel/sound system project. Work has begun on the kitchen. When complete, the kitchen encompass the current youth room. The youth will then occupy the current acolyte room. We hope to have these changes completed by the end of August.

SPIRE SCHEDULE

Items for the next Spire and the September calendar need to be turned in to the office by Monday, August 23. The regular weekly schedule will resume in September.

LOGOS

Pastor Pat & Linda Sutherlin, Janet Cordell, Gerry Lou Brown, Debbie Shorter and Kristina and David Donaldson had a great time at LOGOS training in El Reno! We really appreciate the church's support of this ministry to our young people over the years.

LOGOS Summer trip to the Oklahoma Science Museum is on Tuesday, August 10. We will leave from the church at 9 a.m. and should return around 4 p.m. Please RSVP to Kristina at 603-1721 by Sunday, August 8. All LOGOS kids and adults are welcome to attend.

We ask that you continue to pray for the LOGOS program as we begin the call process and plan for the coming year. Do you feel called to help build Christian relationships with young people? There are so many ways to be involved - you will be richly blessed!

WEEK OF COMPASSION

The Church World Service inventory of clean-up buckets and school kits is still quite low. The need is great: we are in the midst of tropical storm and hurricane season, when clean-up buckets often are requested, and CWS is getting numerous requests for the school kits as overseas partners prepare for the fall school year.

Thank you for whatever efforts you can make to help increase the clean-up bucket and school kit supply to help meet potential and existing requests.

Emergency Clean-up Buckets:  These supplies enable people to begin the overwhelming job of cleaning up after a flood, hurricane, tornado, or other disaster here in the United States.

  • One five-gallon bucket with resealable lid

  • Five scouring pads

  • Seven sponges, assorted sizes

  • One scrub brush

  • Eighteen cleaning towels (reusable, like Easy Wipes®)

  • One 50-78 oz. box dry laundry detergent

  • One 12 oz. bottle of liquid concentrated household cleaner (like Lysol®)

  • One 25 oz. bottle liquid disinfectant dish soap (like Dawn®)

  • One package of 48-50 clothespins

  • Clothesline, two 50 ft. or one 100 ft.

  • Five dust masks

  • Two pairs latex gloves (like Playtex®)

  • One pair work gloves

  • 28-bag roll of heavy-duty trash bags (30-45 gallon)

  • One 6-9 oz. bottle of insect repellent (pump, drops or lotion, not aerosol)

Please provide all liquids in new, unopened plastic bottles. Be sure to send only new materials. Place all items in the plastic bucket, making sure they are packed securely to avoid damage during shipment, and seal lid with packing tape.

School Kits give children in impoverished schools, refugee camps, or other difficult settings some of the basic tools for learning.

  • One pair of blunt metal scissors (rounded tip)

  • Three 70-count spiral notebooks or notebooks totaling 200-210 pages (no loose-leaf or filler paper)

  • One 30-centimeter ruler (12")

  • One hand-held pencil sharpener

  • One large eraser

  • Six new pencils with erasers

  • One box of 24 crayons (only 24)

  • One 12" x 14" to 14" x 17" finished size cotton or lightweight canvas bag with cloth handles. (Please, no reusable shopping bags or backpacks.)

Pack all items inside the cloth bag. (For the School Kit Bag pattern go to www.churchworldservice.org)

We are asking everyone to send pictures of church members and events to Carol at covenantsecretary@yahoo.com

You may see yourself on the big screen on Sunday morning!

OUTREACH CLOSET OPEN

The Outreach closet has been updated and is now open. On the doors there is information about what you can bring for it, and where to take things that we don't have room for (like clothing). Here's what you can share:

Labels for Education: Several Enid and area schools participate in this program. Mostly what is needed is the UPC (the bar code) from the can or box of Campbell's, Franco-American, V-8, Pepperidge Farm, Swanson's, Spaghetti-O's, and Prego products. If you're in doubt, there's a list on the door or you can go to their website at http://www.labelsforeducation.com/participating-products.aspx

Poptops: These can help support the Ronald McDonald houses, which provide housing and some other services for the families of hospitalized children.

Items for YWCA: Toiletries, especially hotel or trial sizes.

Eyeglasses: The Lions Club still collects these.

Bingo prizes: The Commons can use snacks, men's socks, toiletries, or jewelry; Divinely Inspired will be glad to repair/refurbish old or broken jewelry for this purpose.

Non-perishable foods: This doesn't go in the closet, but in the cupboard in the narthex. There's a list on the closet door of items that are always needed.

Thanks in advance to all of you who participate in this effort to reach out to our community!
